Banner 9

Project Overview

Our campus is moving from Banner 8 to Banner 9.  Ellucian, our Enterprise Resource Planning software provider, is moving Banner to the eXtensible Ecosystem technology Platform to improve the user interface, increase flexibility, and provide additional functionality.   This project supports University Strategic Direction 6 to build a responsive infrastructure for a sustainable campus.  This project will require new infrastructure, application development, integration, module deployment, and testing, and will impact most campus functional areas (Admissions, Registrar, Student Accounts, Financial Aid, Advancement, HR, Finance and Payroll, etc.), as well as faculty, staff, and students.

Banner 9 will provide a fresh look and updated functionality, including new functionality for faculty grading, student advising and, registration.  Banner 9 replaces underlying Banner 8 technology that is being phased out, including Oracle Forms, and eliminates the need to run Java (JRE) in the browser. Banner 9 provides single sign-on and will make both Internet Native Banner (INB), Self-Service Banner (SSB), new 9 modules and Admin pages accessible through a single Application Navigator.

Objectives

  1. Current Analysis:  Identify all Oracle forms customizations that need to be developed, have Banner Extensibility added, or a third party solution integrated, and determine infrastructure needed for Banner 9.

  2. Foundation: Implement initial Banner foundation components, and prepare for upgrade.

  3. Software Development: Build software development skills for the new development framework to perform needed development for custom forms and third party integrations.

  4. Deployment and Testing Plan: Review new Ellucian Admin pages and 9 applications with stakeholders to confirm how the new pages and applications solve business needs, and develop a secure Banner 9 deployment and testing plan that mitigates impact for functional units and ITS.

  5. Implementation:  Implement Banner 9 modules with testing, training and documentation, and support. ITS Enterprise Applications will partner with functional areas who will approve their module in a test environment before it is released in production.
